City of Chichester Open

We've already received some great feedback about the event, so thank-you to everyone for your kind words. We were very happy to see so many of you there - hopefully next year can be even bigger! Thanks to everyone who came aong, whether to fence, to help out or just to watch the fantastic display of fencing.

Here's what you've all been waiting for, the all important results:

poules

It was a very successful weekend all round! Aldershot were out in force for the Women's Foil, with a solid display by Liz Ng to take Gold in the final against club mate Nikki Barlow.
In the Men's Foil Tom Hendrie, who started his fencing here at Chichester, faught his way through a field of 45 to the final. In a very tense match he kept his cool against Crawley's wily Mike Questier to take first place.
flecheIn the Women's Epee Georgina Usher's wealth of experience proved to be the deciding factor in the final against Leonora Mackinnon, who had also been fencing well throughout the competition.
The Men's Epee had the biggest showing of the weekend with 72 fencers competing for the fantastic prizes that were on offer. exciting matchThe final rounds saw a number of very exciting matches, with the final between Tom Milner and Phil Marsh taking the cake! After a very hard fought match both competitors looked exhausted, but it was Phil Marsh who came away with the trophy.

In the Wheelchair fencing the performance of the weekend was given by Chichester's Viv Mills, who managed to take Gold in Women's Foil, Epee and Sabre! This excellent run of victories earned her the prize for the competition's best overall performance - well done Viv!
wheelchair foilJust behind Viv in contention for this prize was Tom Hall Butcher, who also managed to win gold at all three weapons in the Men's Wheelchair events with another very solid performance.
We would also like to add an apology to the Wheelchair Fencers. It would appear that the full results were misplaced after the competition, which is why we have been unable to publish them. We'll take better care of them next year, though, we promise.
stop hitWe hope to see the Wheelchair events grow in the years to come, so see you all again very soon!

All that remains is to say a big thank-you to everyone who helped make the competition run so smoothly:
Thanks to the armourers who were the first at the venue each day setting up the hall, and worked hard all day fixing everyone's broken kit;
Thanks to the referees who did the job that nobody ever wants to do, made even tougher with all the close scorelines we saw over the weekend;
foilThanks to the DT who kept everything in order and were so efficient throughout the weekend;
Thanks to Allstar UK for providing the fantastic electrics and for having their equipment store on-site all weekend;
Thanks to all our sponsors, especially Chichester District Council for supporting our event once again;
Thanks to the Westgate Centre for hosting the event again;
Thanks to everyone working behind the scenes to set up everything from the wonderful prizes to receiving entries - you did a great job;
helpers having a well earned restFinally thank-you to everyone else who came along to help out - we think one of the main reasons the City of Chicheter Open has had two successful years is the number of people who volunteered to give up their weekend and be runners, piste assistants, t-shirt sellers, car-park attendants and generally to help make everything run like clock-work - we couldn't have done it without you!
